First thing in the morning, I continued work on the Doll transcript about photographs from “A Day in the Life of Ireland.” Some of the names were difficult to hear and understand, but with some research on the geographic region of Ireland he was in and the parts of Wisconsin he was referring to, I was able to pin down the correct spellings to the best of my ability. (1 hour).
Then, the undergrad student from St. John’s Church, Jon, arrived, so we continued working on the artifacts exhibition. We wanted to display an embroidered stole, a long, narrow garment like a scarf that is worn under a priest’s outer robes. However, we were running into some problems about how to adequately display it in the limited space. The stole had embroidery at the very ends of the stole and at the very top, with a lot of blank space in the middle. We decided that with some creative folding, we could cut down the space needed to display the piece, but we still weren’t fully satisfied. So, Dave and I considered some solutions for hanging the long textile on a thick paper board that would lean against the back wall of the display. We are not yet fully decided on how to secure the stole in such a manner without sewing it or risking other damage to it, so we will have to continue to brainstorm tomorrow. (3.5 hours)
