Competencies for Special Collections Professionals III.G.4: Advocates for the development and/or enhancement of primary source literacy according to institutional context and assessed user needs.
In this literature review assignment, completed for LIS 60030: People in the Information Ecology, I identified the needs of middle school students by reviewing the existing scholarly literature and research studies surrounding the user group. From the review of the literature, I recommended strategies for connecting with and supporting the information needs of middle school students, advocating for greater emphasis on training information literacy and search skills to empower middle school students to become lifelong, independent learners.
