I started transcribing a new interview with Fr. Doll, continuing with the Ireland series (30 minutes).
When I was able to meet up with Dave, he brought me to the archives’ storage room of materials and overflow cold storage. The space occasionally gets water leaks, so he showed me ways in which they have worked around the threat of dripping water with plastic sheeting and magnets, in combination with pumps and dehumidifiers to protect from flooding. He also showed me the backstock of archival supplies, such as acid-free archival folders and boxes, acid-free poly bags and photo pockets, dust-free pencils, and more. We spent a lot of time discussing different suppliers, the purposes of each item, how they are properly used, and more. We also talked about building design for planning a new archival facility, what factors are important to weigh, and how to prioritize those choices of bare minimum versus optimal when faced with a limited budget. (3 hours)
At the end of the day, I spent some more time with John, the undergraduate student from the church, in arranging and reducing the number of objects in the exhibit. We have a shallow, long shelf to arrange the objects on, and I want to be very careful to not over-clutter it with an overwhelming amount of objects. (1 hour)
