In the first part of the morning, I continued working on transferring the old records from the previous ArchivesSpace repository into the new repository (3 hours). I met with Dave and discussed problems of security, copyright, and privacy as they relate to the CDR, particularly in regards to the issue of the need for an image viewer that can protect images from being downloaded, which the CDR does not yet have, thus many of the items in the CDR are not yet live to the public (1 hour).
Later, I met Olivia, another undergrad student worker who is a Cultural Anthropology major, and we met with Dave to prepare an initial meeting with Fr. Doll in regards to the planned proposal of having recorded sessions where he and Olivia go through his slides, the hope being that with a sounding board and someone to keep him on track, he would tell the stories behind the photo sessions that would help us to add some metadata to the slides regarding locations, people featured, and the general significance of the shoots (1.5 hours). With my background in transcription, I was able to give some guidance on how to drop references to locations and subjects to keep the transcript “synced” with the photos and to repeat difficult names if possible. We also discussed how to best get the metadata by guiding him through his storytelling without being intrusive.
