I met one of the undergraduate student workers, Cindy, who introduced me to ArchivesSpace. Creighton has outgrown its former repository location in ArchivesSpace, and Cindy is the point person on an effort to move the old digital records into the new repository space, all within ArchivesSpace. She showed me the basic procedures and guidelines, which included being sure to codify naming conventions of the sources, since the previous repository location did not have a fixed vocabulary for them. She and I worked on transferring the old records into the new ArchiveSpace repository for 3 hours.
Later, I was introduced to another new project that the department was facing. Due to a recent theft of artifacts, the church that is on campus, St. John’s Church, needed a safe place to store their remaining artifacts until their new security measures could be implemented. In working with Dave, who offered the Rare Books Room as a secure storage location for the interim, they decided that they would like to have the entire remaining collection photographed and photogrammed, to have an inventory taken, and to have the collection featured on the CDR. As part of the initial stages of the inventory and documentation process, I helped prepare St. John’s Church’s altar for a photography session with Greg, a health services librarian and the department’s photographer, and supported him throughout the session by moving chairs, lights, ladders at his direction. (2.5 hours)
