First, I worked on transcribing one of Fr. Doll’s interviews, continuing on the Vietnam series. The photos showed a gathering with several signs and historical Vietnamese figures in prominent display that Fr. Doll could not remember the significance of (being over 30 years since his visit!), so having the reference photos in front of me (and not knowing how I would be able to type the names he was reading otherwise), I did some research and translation of the items in the pictures to better serve the metadata later on. (1.5 hours)
Later in the Rare Books Room, Dave and I talked about using some cloth to not only cover some of the supports but also to help make the groupings more clear. The thought was that if we could have all of the items that were in one grouping together on the cloth, it would serve as a more clear visual break for the viewer. After we discussed what color(s) to use, Dave got some navy blue cloth for me, and I cut and arranged it with the items on the display shelf. (2.5 hours)
At the end of the day, I went back down to the Archives office and met with another student worker who showed me how the department uses the app Zappar to create its augmented reality components of its displays. Zappar is a free app that uses a target image with its unique QR codes embedded in the image to sync to an AR component that you set up. For her purposes, she had created display labels of some artwork around the library that when scanned with Zappar would load images and links to further information about the artist. I began to brainstorm how I would utilize Zappar with the SJC exhibit. (1 hour)
